Dungeon Friends FAQ
BASIC INFO + DISCLAIMERSHi! Thanks for your curiosity and interest in us and our campaigns!Like it says on the Dungeon Friends TikTok, we're a group of friends playing various TTRPGs, and have been for a handful of years now. We play lots of DnD 5e, but we also play PBTA-based games, VTM, even the Firefly RPG, and have plans to play other games (i.e. Lancer, Mörk Borg, too many to count or name)! We are NOT, however, professional entertainers, voice actors (or actors in general), comedians, etc. We are casual enthusiasts who play as regularly as we can, and we're lucky to have played even as much as we have! Many in our group have full time jobs and other time intensive passions and hobbies. We stutter and stammer and 'um' our way through sessions, our audio isn't pristine or professional (it's not uncommon we suffer audio errors or disruptions, unfortunately), we don't play optimally... We're a fairly typical group, just playing our favorite games with our friends. What you see on our TikTok are highly tailored and curated clips. That is NOT what those moments tend to ACTUALLY be like at the 'table,' which involves a lot more awkward silence and fumbling to find our words. We aren't creating and are not interested in creating an entertainment product. The work this would require, with no guarantee for financial success, with no safety net, would ruin what makes even having these sessions possible and enjoyable for us. We have no production team around us or moderators, none of the things that would make putting on a show feasible and safe for us as random individuals. We're not interested in falsely advertising these sessions as though they are something meant to be watched by others. It started out private and low-tech, but we decided to start recording for posterity and so we could re-listen to sessions, family and friends started to listen and enjoy the stories we were telling, our presentation and audio gradually became more consistent and appealing, one of the players started the TikTok for fun and as another way to archive the funniest/most interesting moments... And now those TikToks are getting thousands of views...And so many people became curious that it became more efficient to write a lengthy FAQ than try to answer individually with only 150 characters per reply.Oh God.No, really, even the name 'Dungeon Friends' is that because that's what the Discord we play on is called, just couldn't think of anything else to name the TikTok profile while making it. That's not like, a brand or a title or anything.
Where can I watch? If you haven't, go back and read the disclaimers section of the FAQ.And, if you've read that, and STILL want to watch... Okay! Great! We post most (there are some exceptions) sessions to a YouTube channel. Those sessions are public, but we do not advertise or promote them, and we do not profit from them. They are for our reference and benefit, and are completely unedited.CLICK HERE TO WATCH THE ARCHIVED SESSIONS
Do you agree to be respectful of the players and DM?i.e. No backseating, trying to correct us, telling us what we should have done or could have done, being mean/rude/overfamiliar, or hateful... Eh, you get it, right? Keep it positive!
No, seriously, will you be SUPER chill and understand that, while this is PUBLIC, it's not FOR the public?~We play only for ourselves. We want to be able to share these journeys, but we are sharing out of a love for the hobby and tentative good will. We're inviting you to listen, but that invitation can be revoked. ~We would also ask that the links provided not be spread around or shared. We will provide links upon request!
Okay, but you better mean it! Here you go.

What App/Site/Program are you using? For environments and minis combat purposes, we play using TaleSpire. The environments are often cobbled together from Tales Tavern, a place where users upload environments for other users to use, and then customized heavily. If you ever wonder about a specific environment, just ask and we'll provide some extra details! We also utilize TaleSpire's Hero Forge integration. The little jumping portraits are painted by player Tub/Hannah, and are used with Reactive Images. We use this as a visual aid to tell who is talking, and as something to focus on while playing! Our DM records from their perspective using OBS. (This is nice because then we get to see things after the session or campaign that maybe we didn't before!)In older campaigns, we frequently used Roll20.We do not have any sponsorships/affiliations with any of the tools and services mentioned, btw, we make zero money from our games or from telling you about this stuff. (In fact, we lose quite a lot of money indulging in this hobby, ngl.)
UPDATE: There is now also a collection on TalesTavern of notable slabs/props/etc. that appear in our campaign boards! Check the collection out here!
Will you ever make a Podcast/Show/Stream?Probably not. Sorry! The amount of work this would take is beyond us. I think we all tend to underestimate the amount of production that needs to go into making something truly listenable or watchable, trying to record even decent quality, mixable audio, let alone actually doing the mixing and editing... It's too much for a group of hobbyists, who already have full lives and jobs (and even more hobbies and pastimes). We hope people will still enjoy the highlights TikTok, and if anyone chooses to, the archive of past sessions! And, hopefully, this is not understood to be a flat 'no,' so much as acknowledging the improbability of such a situation. This group of friends, playing these games is entirely just for fun, with no profit or product in mind. Some of us may be interested in opportunities to play at a table for entertainment, but that's a different set of circumstances.
